A-line dress sewing pattern

A simple, gently flared sleeveless dress. Wear it alone or layer it over a tee. Drafted to your doll’s size and printed on woven cotton (it doesn’t stretch), so you cut it out and sew it with no paper pattern.

How to sew it

Printed along the bottom of your panel:

  1. Right sides together, sew the shoulder seams. Make small, shallow snips in the neckline and armhole allowances only where needed to turn them smoothly, well short of the dotted line.
  2. Turn the neckline and armholes under on the dotted line and stitch or glue. Fray Check on the cut edge is optional.
  3. Hem the back edges. Sew the side seams.
  4. Hem the bottom. Mark the back overlap on the doll, take the dress off, then sew on hook-and-loop tape.

Each piece’s printed size, drafted from that doll’s measurements:

  • 18-inch doll: dress front 10 ⅛ × 9 ½″, dress back 5 ¾ × 9 ⅜″. Prints on a fat quarter panel ($32.00).
  • 16-inch doll: dress front 7 ⅜ × 8 ¾″, dress back 4 ¼ × 8 ⅝″. Prints on a fat quarter panel ($32.00).
  • 14½-inch doll: dress front 6 ⅜ × 7 ¼″, dress back 3 ⅝ × 7 ⅛″. Prints on a fat quarter panel ($32.00).
  • 14-inch doll: dress front 5 ¾ × 7 ¼″, dress back 3 ¼ × 7 ⅛″. Prints on a fat quarter panel ($32.00).
  • 11½-inch fashion doll: dress front 4 ⅛ × 6 ¼″, dress back 2 ⅜ × 6 ⅛″. Prints on a fat quarter panel ($32.00).
  • Blythe: dress front 3 ⅜ × 5 ⅛″, dress back 2 × 5 ⅛″. Prints on a fat quarter panel ($32.00).
  • Any other doll: enter its measurements in the designer
