Gathered skirt sewing pattern

Full and twirly, with an elastic waist that pulls on. Drafted to your doll’s size and printed on woven cotton (it doesn’t stretch), so you cut it out and sew it with no paper pattern.

How to sew it

Printed along the bottom of your panel:

  1. While flat, hem both skirt pieces and sew gathering stitches in each top edge’s seam allowance, stopping just short of the side lines. Sew the pieces together at both sides, tails clear.
  2. Sew the waistband ends together, leaving a small gap on one half. Fold it on the middle dotted line, wrong sides together. It doesn’t stretch: check it slips over the doll’s hips.
  3. Pull the gathers to fit. Band’s outer right side on the skirt’s right side, both band raw edges on the skirt’s top edge, notches matched, the gap layer facing out (it ends up inside). Spread the gathers evenly and sew.
  4. Thread elastic through the gap, keeping it flat. Check the skirt pulls over the doll’s hips and bottom and is snug at the waist, then take it off. Join the ends and close the gap without catching the elastic.
