Overalls sewing pattern

A bib and straps on comfy pants. Great over a tee. Drafted to your doll’s size and printed on woven cotton (it doesn’t stretch), so you cut it out and sew it with no paper pattern.

How to sew it

Printed along the bottom of your panel:

  1. Hem the legs. Right sides together, sew each front to its back along the inner leg. Side seams still open, lay the legs right sides together, inseams matched, front crotch edges together and back ones together. Sew the crotch curve.
  2. Turn the waist edge under on the top dotted line, fold the casing in on the second dotted line and stitch near the inner fold. Thread elastic through the back casing only. Baste the side seams on their sewing lines and adjust the elastic: snug, not tight, and stretching over the doll’s hips and bottom. Take it off, stitch across both back casing ends to hold the elastic, then sew the side seams, matching notches. The front stays flat.

  3. Bib: place the two bib pieces right sides together, sew both sides and the top; leave the bottom open. Turn, press. Straps: fold lengthwise right sides together, sew the long edge and one end, turn, press. Small doll: turn both long edges in and tuck the front end in, then fold and stitch; leave the back end open for step 4.
  4. Turn the bib’s open edge in, lap it over the front waist, its sides on the BIB crosses, and stitch. Turn under each strap’s back end and stitch it inside the back waist at its STRAP cross. Keep the elastic free and the casing open.

  5. Mark the snap positions on the doll: two halves on each strap at two lengths, one on each bib corner. Remove the overalls before sewing. A button needs a buttonhole or thread loop on the strap.
